Dr. Eric Berg talks about the relationship between protein and belly fat burning. Proteins is responsible to trigger 3 main fat burning hormones – growth hormone, IGF-1, glucagon. But Proteins should not be consumed in excess quantity as that can stop us from losing weight as that can trigger insulin. The quality of protein intake also determines fat burning so it should be a high quality (no soy), no added sugar, digestible, non-allergic, complete. A high protein diet in the appropriate amounts will ensure is ideal for losing weight and fat burning.

Protein does trigger fat burning through 3 hormones; Growth Hormone, IGF-1 and Glucagon. However, there are several rules that apply: Keep your protein at 20 grams per meal, keep the quality high (no soy) and complete, make sure it’s digestable and non-allergic and lastely make sure there is NO sugar added to the meal as sugar increases insulin, the opposing hormone. I recommend pea protein if you wanted a meal replacement as it’s easy to digest, no allergies, complete and taste pretty good.

    A friend of mine once said..that before you start off one any weight loss it a ketosis diet..or an atkins high protein diet for athletes….she said one must to a detox diet…now what is a detox diet…i didn't bother askin her..but maybe you can explain whats this detoxification thingii….

I don't get it….protein activates hormones to burn fat…ketosis mode of fat burning neeeeds MORE you eat fat and more fat to store enough fat to burn fat but if you eat protein then the fat does not burn fat…you just get fat ?? and !!!!! if you eat dark meat chicken for the protein it is fatter than white meat but it is protein and fat which counter acts itself and you just loose both ways ??? like i say I don't get it….just eat protein powder ? help !!!@#*??

  7. An excellent explanation of medical digestive process. I have a neck pain for 3 months and now I know my gallbladder to be the source. I stop eating bread and sugar it is almost all gone. My acid stomach and reflux suddenly stopped. I had it for over fifty years. The last three years I stopped it with Liver Support Factors by Country Life, but I also controlled Crohn's with them. I was treated in 1960 in Italy with shots of: Methionine, B-12, and vitamin K. This treatment removed my abdominal pain that called for removing part of my intestine. I had no acid or reflux for three years. I learned that a clean liver produces a healthy body and excellent memory.

  8. Dr Berg I am interested in buying your wheat grass products and such, where can i find them? I also have a question if you don't mind me asking: I am very addicted to sugar, as a lot of others are. When i eat, i have a hunger that cannot be satiated. If i eat my belly full i feel full, but then 30 minutes later, i LITERALLY feel like i did not eat anything at all and i am just as hungry as before. Doctors told me i am normal but i don't believe it. I'd say i'm in ok shape, maybe 5'11 and 190 lbs, 21 yrs old. Is this a symptom of Type II diabetes, or hypoglycemia? Blood tests showed i did have stage 2 kidney damage, but said it was nothing to worry about. I am not sure if i should try the ketosis diet, though i really want to. At this point, i am VERY unhealthy as far as my body goes and pains i have to deal with and i know that diet, and no sugar intake may help to reverse any disease i may have. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

  9. I learned this the hard way on the Atkins diet… a few years ago. Pumpkins seeds seem to work well for me.. for salads..etc. Meat is hard to digest if you eat too much of it in one day.

  10. This video makes losing weight seem impossible.  You mean to tell me that eating pineapple cottage cheese is no good as a protein fat burning source just because it has pineapple in it?  How upsetting.

  11. Too much protein seems like not working for us…. IGF and other growth hormones make you grow faster …that means, you grow faster (grow old faster). so lets limit the amount of protein !!! Thanks Doc !
