Your report will then be sent via email analyzing 104 potential symptoms, giving you a much deeper insight into the cause-effect relationship of your body issues. It’s free and very enlightening.

Dr. Berg talks about cutting calories and not losing weight. Dieting reduces your metabolism, or the rate at which you lose weight. Diet destroys your set-point. There are 3 variables: diet, body’s ability to use calories and lastly your activity level. Each macronutrient – carbs, protein and fats are not all used as fuel, fat and protein are also used as replacing body parts and tissue. Only the carbohydrates are used for fuel, so even know fat have a higher calorie per unit – does mean its all being turned to fat on your body, you are instead using some for fuel and some for body part replacement.

So the question is – do you want to burn calories in general? Or do you want to burn fat as your primary fuel? To do that, you must understand the hormone aspects. Lowering the carbs will force your body to lower insulin to then tap in fat. The hormone that determines what fuel you burn is insulin.

  1. Thank you SO much for making this video! I have counted calories off and on since I was in my early twenties and have never lost weight since my 20's by doing it. It didn't matter if I ate less than 1200 calories or bumped the calories up…no loss. In the last 30 years of counting calories I have moved my body's set point up almost 40 pounds!!!!! I can't tell you how frustrated I became with myfitnesspal for mocking me week after week…when it what tell me that if I kept eating the way I was that in 5 weeks I would lose weight. 5…10…15 and more weeks would go by and I might fluctuate between losing 3-5 pounds. I started intermittent fasting Friday night (after doing a keto diet since December and not losing weight) and I already feel better. I'm going to do a combination of high fat, moderate protein and low carb, along with intermittent fasting to finally get this weight under control. Now I just have to silence the lies that are in my head that keep saying I have to eat more to lose weight. Good grief…why did I ever believe that?

  2. I WASNT ABLE TO LOSE WEIGHT FOR YEARS BY CUTTING CALORIES, NO MATTER WHAT I DID. EVEN 4 X/ WK I DID HIIT EXERCISE. AND EVEN INCREASED THE LENGHT OF TIME. ONE DAY I FOUND DR BERG, LISTENED, STARTED THE KETOGENIC DIET , STOPED EXERCISING, AND THE WEIGHT STARTED TO COME OFF AFTER 2 WKS I FELT ON MY CLOTHES, I WAS VERY SURPRISED BECAUSE I WAS EXPECTING NO WEIGHT LOSS JUST LIKE BEFORE. CUTTING CALORIES SIMPLY DOESNT WORK. I AM HAPPY TOO THAT CAKES ARE NOT AN ISSUE ANYMORE, SINCE I LEARNT FROM YOU DR BERG HOW THEY MESS UP MY INSULIN.I LEARNT FOR LIFE. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! 3. I believe different strokes for different folks. My hormones are whack. I am taking anti hormone drug arimidex this is my first month: I have been on tampoxiphen for 4 years as a breast cancer drug. I am drinking high protein low calorie 2 carb ensure light vanilla 70 calories about 3 x a day and then a freshly meal about 500 calories. No weight loss. My face looks thinner. I have a fitness tracker and I work about 4 x 12 hour days per week avg 11000. steps per day. I sleep and rest as I am tired on my day off. I have a physical job. My cholesterol is great and has great ratio for and my blood sugar is 84 fasting. My triglycerides dropped over 60 points and are good since I have discovered high protein low carb ensure light I drink vinegar and lemon juice daily and my leg cramps and gerd have almost disappeared. I seldom take omniprizil. I would like to loose weight. I go into ketosis easily (testing strip). I think I like low carb high protein diet. My ultimate goal is good health. Yet i would still like to loose weight. Son the days I am not working I take colon cleanse supplements. I feel good most of the time. I am optimistic that eventually I will loose weight.

  4. Dr Berg I've been following low carb medium to high protein and medium to high fat. I've lost good amount of weight and I rarely count Cals. But after loosing about 12 pounds I have plateaued. Any advice on how to keep burning more fat? I don't want to loose muscle. I am 78kg, 23% fat, 58% water, 43% muscle and 2.5kg bones. Help

  5. Hi dr berg. You have great videos and always very clear explained. One video which could be of interest for many including me is to know when exactly the body uses fat as energy. What I mean is of course at first it ll be carbs and once depleted how about protein? I am not clear about the order. Could you please make a video on it? Thanks so much

  6. Doc , let me add to your knowledge that manipulating macros does not matter much if protein intake is at 1.2g per kg of bodyweight and A 3 days Resistance training program is prescribed to the client instead of cardio. He/she will lose only fat mass and zero muscle .

  7. I so wish i had known 5 years ago before i went on one crazy diet!!!! Id love to see a video on how to reset your metabolism if thats possible!!

  8. The fact that lowering carb will cause lowering insulin an help in fat loss is misleading at today's date.Because there carbohydrate -insulin theory has been falsified recently.Although there was increase in 100 calorie energy expenditure ,that definitely doesn't help in losing fat.

  9. so in conclusion, eating Ketogenic diet in our daily calorie requirement won't cause slow metabolism, right 😀 🙂

  10. I have a very slow metabolism thanks to my mum putting me on meal replacement diets at a very young age. I've tried weight watchers, Scottish slimmers and Slimming world over the years. I've lost some weight but never got to targets. I was wondering if trying the Yokebe plan would be beneficial for me or is there anything you would suggest I try? Thanks for the informative videos I've learned so much!!

  11. I have had the most success with weight loss by cutting out most of the starch and salt that I eat. I kept the same amount of protein, fruit and veggies and cut the fat in half. I lost 25 lbs in about 2 months with very little exercise. Thank you Dr Berg for the good advice.

  12. I see a lot of people losing 10-20 lbs their first month doing keto… but, I started keto up again last week (after being off it for 2 months) and only have lost 1lb.  I don't know why!  I've been drinking a lot of water, making sure my macros are on point (70/25/5), getting in my salt plus taking potassium and magnesium.  What am I doing wrong?

  13. My set point is at 137kg and I can't get it down for over a decade (on TRT) I have perfect blood tests except hormones, now I will have to finally cut carbs down to 15% of my food intake , 25% Protein (including powder) and the rest of the 60% good fats! Four Eggs, Cow Butter, Coconut oil, Greek Virgin Olive oil, and Fat fruits!""………..No Sugars!
