1. Calorie deficit

Everyone and their mothers know that you need to burn more calories than you take in. The problem with this is that a lot of people think it means eating less of the crappy food that they’re already consuming. Sure, they can go that route, can they really commit to that? Most likely not.

2. Eat more protein

Aside from water, protein is one of the most important nutrients that our body needs. It’s needed to help build muscle, rebuild tissue, and help us feel full. You can learn more about proteins in one of my previous videos.

A couple of great examples to get your protein are:

So many people are afraid of eating fats (almost like carbs). The problem with this mentality is that our body needs both to survive. Our body needs good fats as a part of it’s survival, it’s the overwhelming amount of fat that people consume that make them fat. Good carbs and fats are beneficial to the body, it’s the excess of both that can be bad.

Eating good fats can help speed up your metabolism, help your body better use those vitamins you get from food, and provide healthier skin.

Where can you get good fats?

Good fats

Olive oil
Canola oil
Sunflower oil
Peanut oil
Sesame oil

4. Eat less processed carbs

God I feel like I’ll go nuts the next time someone tries to offer that as good advice. Not all good intentions deliver good results. Carbs are where most your body gets your energy. They aren’t the enemy, it’s the type of carbs and the amount of it that can affect how fat or lean you get. Anything in excess becomes fat, and the quality of the food you eat affects your body’s performance. This could be the difference from having energy or low energy.

Here are some great examples for carbs to eat:

Sweet Potato
Black Beans
Beans in general

5. Eat more greens

This is inevitable, if you want to help increase your energy, burn that fat, and get lean, you’ve got to eat more vegetables. They provide the micronutrients like Vitamin A, K, Magnesium, Chloride, that help our body run at optimal levels. The beautiful thing with eating greens is that you can eat as much of it you want, feel full, and not have to worry about the amount of calories you consume.

6. Exercise

Notice that everything I’ve shared so far in this post all starts off with nutrition. It’s because I believe that everything starts within, it’s one of the pillars of my coaching program. What you look like on the outside is a reflection of what is going on in the inside (this could go for your mental and emotional health as well… just a side thought).

There are a million options and workout programs out there. I can definitely understand how it can be confusing where to start. Here’s what I’ve got to say… just start.
